Albany --  The Dougherty County School System honored teachers of the year from all 26-schools.

Out of eight finalists, Evangela Jones was named the system-wide teacher of the year. She teaches third grade at International Studies Elementary Magnet School.

Members of the selection committee said it was a tough decision.

"We'll be delighted with the teacher of the year representing us this year. Outstanding person, all of them were outstanding, and I'm just so proud of them," said selection committee member Everette Freeman.

Retiring teachers were also honored at Thursday's banquet.
