Sumter County - Accusations of voter fraud by a candidate and racism by an elections official will be heard by the state board of elections. Sumter County Elections Supervisor Sherry Ratliff filed a complaint against then-mayoral candidate James L. Bryant. She accused him of fraud with absentee ballots during the November 2005 election.

Bryant then filed a complaint against Ratliff. He said she disenfranchised minority voters by not accepting some absentee ballots. The state board of elections set May 24th as the date to hear both sides and decide what, if any actions should be taken against Bryant and or Ratliff.
