Terrell County - - It was a close call for the driver of a semi-truck this morning. According to the Terrell County Sheriff's Department, a 60 year old man lost control of his truck and slammed into a train.
The crash happened at the intersection of Highway 520 and 45 North, just outside Dawson. Around 10:30 this morning, officers got the call and responded to the scene. They found that the driver of the semi had lost control of his car, swerved off of the road, and crashed into a parked train.
EMS used the jaws of life to rescue him. The Mitchell family can see the wreckage from their home. Melinda Mitchell is relieved her one year old son Devin wasn't outside of her mom's house at the time.
"She's the primary care taker when I'm at work so it could've been a lot worse because he could've been here," Mitchell says.
Deputies are still investigating the crash, but say speed may have been a factor. The speed limit is 55 miles-per-hour at the spot where the driver swerved off of the road. The driver of the truck... Terry Ray Wilkinson... is listed in good condition tonight at Phoebe Putney. Investigators say they do not plan to charge the driver of the semi at this time.
