Valdosta - Some of South Georgia 's brightest students went head to head with their administrators Wednesday.

Valdosta State University's academic team recently won fifth place at the National College Bowl Tournament in Hartford, Connecticut . They were the only Division II school out of 16 teams competing for the national prize, and beat out thousands of teams at the campus and regional levels.

At a reception to honor the team Wednesday, they competed in a mini academic bowl with V.S.U. administrators. The student won 330 to 40! "We sort of got destroyed, we were put in our place by these guys, they're very smart, very good, and very experienced," said Kurt Keppler, Vice President of Student Affairs.

Adacemic Team Member Mitch Alday was also selected as the winner of the Pat Moonen Sportspersons Award. It's given to one team member at the national competition who best demonstrates good sportsmanship and positive play.
