Albany -- A different kind of music tonight at Albany's Municipal Auditorium as part of the "Great American Voices Military Base Tour."

Five members of the Atlanta Opera performed for a crowd of marines and others. It's part of a nationwide initiative in which the National Endowment for the Arts and the Department of Defense bring opera companies to military bases.

"Albany has really embraced this initiative. Instead of just having the performance on the base they have decided to invite the community to be a part of it. They feel that Albany has embraced them and they want to give back to their community," said Georgianna Paul of the National Endowment for the Arts.

Selections performed included songs from "Porgy and Bess," "Showboat," and "My Fair Lady."

The Marine Corps Logistics Base is one of 39 bases nationwide to enjoy the opera tour.
