Albany -- We all know how important the Albany Marine Corps Logistics Base is to the local economy, and to the fighting men and women overseas.
Members of the Albany Chamber of Commerce got a first-hand tour Thursday of what is now going on behind the gates of the Marine Corps Logistics Base. The tour featured the expanded work being done on vehicle armor protective kits, that has meant more jobs for the base and the local economy, as well as safer vehicles for the military.
Chamber member Clifford Porter says the tour shows just how important MCLB is to the area. "A lot of our small businesses actually feed off of what happens here at the maintanence center and on the base so we are just really excited to bring our other members out here to kind of see what is going on at the base and really get a better understanding of how MCLB fits into our community."
The Marine base is having to add a new building and more workers to meet the continued demand for it's armor kits.
