Albany welcomes soldiers with ribbons

April 22, 2006

Albany -- A warm welcome home to 48th Brigade soldiers is taking place all over South Georgia.

These volunteers were at the Albany Amory Saturday stringing up the ribbons.

The yellow ribbon idea comes from an old song by Tony Orlando entitled "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Around the Old Oak Tree." The message to the soldiers is one of thanks for their service and one that says welcome home.

"We want to make sure that the troops know how much we appreciate what they've done for us. It's real imporant that we show our support." said Sara Underdown.

Up to forty volunteers showed up to the Philema Road VFW post to hang the ribbons around town.

The 48th Brigade soldiers arrived at Fort Stewart earlier this week and will return home to their families within the next few days.
