Homerville - A South Georgia county that charged jail inmates fees will have to pay them back.
Between 2000 and 2004, inmates in the Clinch County Jail had to pay a daily fee of $18.00. County officials said the fine was their way of punishing criminals for their crimes instead of the taxpayers.
But a judge ruled that the county had no legal power to charge inmates who hadn't been convicted of a crime, and ordered them to repay the inmates a total of about $27,000.
