Albany-- A Dougherty County school bus driver was formally charged Thursday in connection with a deadly accident last week.

56-year-old Richard Allen Kucsera of Lee County was killed as he walked across Jefferson Street last Thursday afternoon. He was struck by a school bus driven by Earl Dawson.

Dawson is now charged with second degree vehicular homicide, a misdemeanor, and failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. He was booked at the Dougherty County Jail Thursday, then released.

Albany Police says a routine drug and alcohol screening showed Dawson was clean and school officials say the veteran driver had no previous safety problems.
