Albany -- A four-legged friend from Albany is nominated for a national award, and people in the community are raising support to help him win it.

You may have met Hero around town before. He visits places such as hospitals and nursing homes with the Paws Patrol pet therapy program.

Now Hero is one of five dogs nominated to be Pedigree's Dog of the Year. You can vote on Pedigree's website.

Masterfoods USA produces Pedigree dog food, and workers at the Albany plant are making sure Hero gets lots of votes.

"We're encouraging them to vote, we're doing door prizes. It's really just to bring awareness to the Humane Society and the great work that Pedigree does with animals all across America," said Masterfoods USA Personnel Manager Virginia Parker.

"He loves what he does, he just loves going to visit people. It makes him so happy. I put on his bandana and we get in the car, he knows he's going to visit some of his friends," said Hero's owner Marty Harris.

Hero will be awarded "Pedigree's Paws to Recognize" title if he recieves the most online votes nationwide.

The winner will be announced in late July.
