Albany -- That big, new MRI center that Phoebe Putney built-- without state permission-- won't re-open.

In March 2004, Phoebe had to shut down the $1.3-million center on Meredyth Drive because it was built without a certificate of need approval from the state. Now, the hospital plans to turn the center into a pre-operative test center.

"It's an easier place to park. You are able to schedule your time as you do at the hospital. Very quickly Get in, get out. So It's a convenience factor," said Phoebe's Sr. V.P. Operations John Fischer.

The Meredyth Drive testing office will open May 15th. Fischer says Phoebe has no plans to ask the state for permission to open an MRI center at that location again.
