Suspected Shoplifter cuts employees

April 11, 2006

Albany -- A suspected shoplifter turned violent and attacked two Albany mall employees with a box cutter.

Police say 21 year old Vi'Yetta Jenkins assaulted two employees at Belks Monday when they confronted her about stealing.

Police say Jenkins had a one year old child with her when she attacked the two men. Lt. Kenn Singleton said "this person was attempting to shoplift. And as they brought her back to the security room, this is when she pulled out a box cutter and started to cut each one of these individuals. "

Belk's employee Gary Ethridge was cut three times on the head and hands, while Michael Irwin was cut on the back.

Jenkins was also charged with cruelty to a child, because she cut the two men while holding her one year old.
