Valdosta - Police at a South Georgia college have a new, unique mode of transportation.

Valdosta State University police are now traveling on Segways. The motorized, skooter-like transportation allows police to patrol in high pedestrian traffic areas that vehicles can't go through.

Officers say it also gives them more face to face contact with students. "It's more in the community policing, its providing interaction with the citizens and the Valdosta State University community," said Chief Scott Doner.

Campus police have two segways now, but they hope to buy more in the future.
