Chehaws cheetahs celebrated birthday

April 8, 2006

Albany -- One year ago the cheetah cubs at Chehaw Park Zoo were born, and Saturday the zoo celebrated with a party.

Friends, cake and presents were at the zoo for the cubs special day. Several children got to get their faces painted, and watch as the cheetahs opened birthday gifts.

Many children say the cheetahs are their favorite exhibit at the zoo.

"They can run about 71 miles per hour," said Jerald Riggins.

"The cheetahs trying to open box," said Dre Porter.

"All of them trying to get one present, but all of them got one. But all of them fighting over one. And it's all their birthday," said Jarvis Porter.

The cheetah cubs have been part of the Chehaw family for three months now. Zoo officials are in planning stages to have a lure course put into the exhibit so visitors can watch the animals run around.
