Albany -- Still no charges tonight in a fatal accident involving a school bus and a pedestrian in a congested area near downtown Albany.

Fifty-six year old Richard Allen Kucsera was killed yesterday afternoon as he crossed Jefferson Street.

There's been a lot of growth in that area around Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, that's increased foot and vehicle traffic. Many people walk from the hospital to nearby parking lots and businesses.

Safety advocates remind walkers to take the extra steps and use a crosswalk.

"The driver of a vehicle may not be looking toward a pedestrian or looking for a pedestrian. They may be distracted by something in the environment and not see you," said Albany Safe Communities Coordinator Michele DeMott.

"I watch the lights, make sure the lights are red and that traffic is not coming my direction. Then I look both ways before I cross the street," said Matthew Schwark.

Drivers also need to use extra caution in congested areas and always yield to pedestrians.
