Seminole County- The Department of Natural Resources says you can avoid tragedies like that one in Seminole County if you follow safety regulations.
All boats in Georgia are required to carry an adequate number of life jackets and flotation devices. The DNR encourages everyone to wear a life jacket when you're on the water. Some children are required to wear a life vest.
"Any child under the age of 10 must wear a life jacket any time the boat's in motion adults are not required to wear life jackets but they are required to have one in the boat," said Tony Cox, Department of Natural Resources.
Boats must have at least one floatation cushion at all times. Life jackets must be available for everyone on board.
