Tifton-- The United States is in desperate need of organ donors to save lives.
April is National Donate Life Month. More than 91,000 people are on waiting lists for organs nationwide. Health leaders at Tift Regional say that list grows every year.
They say many people are apprehensive about donating organs and hospitals in small areas have to work harder to educate people about organ donation.
"That gift of life in sad times is a contribution that gives people some peace, some satisfaction with the decision they've made," says Laverne Cook, Assistant Vice-President of Patient Care at Tift Regional.
Cook also says that if you want to be an organ donor, make sure your family and friends know it. 17 people die everyday waiting for a transplant. The most needed organ is the kidney.
