Coroner steps down

Valdosta - A South Georgia coroner is stepping down.

Lowndes County Coroner Charles Exum will resign May 1st because of health problems. Exum has served as coroner for 14 years. He was re-elected in 2004 and still had two years left to serve.

Probate Judge Ruby Sirmans will appoint someone to fill the unexpired term. Possible candidates are deputy coroners Walter Wacter and Terry Hawke.
