Albany - Rescue divers and a helicopter crew search for a man who may have jumped off the Broad Avenue bridge into the Flint River. The Albany-Dougherty Search and Rescue Team sent divers into the river Thursday morning.

Police say witnesses reported seeing a man jumped off the bridge around midnight Tuesday. The Albany fire rescue team combed the riverbed and banks that night, but found nothing. The divers have been in the water all day.

"They work in pairs," said Commander Chuck Mitchell. "With the water temperature between 50 and 55 degrees, they can stay down about 15 to 20 minutes. Then they need to come up and take a break and warm up because it is so cold."

Thursday afternoon, helicopter crews surveyed the area. Georgia Power shut the gates at the dam to lower the water to make it easier for divers to comb the riverbed. No body was found. Crews will begin searching again Friday morning. They're moving south to the Oglethorpe Bridge.
