Valdosta - Valdosta State coach Chris Hatcher's offense calls for plenty of passes.
But Hatcher hasn't won national title without realizing that a good running game will make your passing attack even better.
And Coach Hatcher thought that the Blazers would be strong at the running back position even with the loss of Vincent Brown to graduation.
The Blazers picked up transfers Skylar Thornton from Florida and highly touted Terrance Hall from Florida Atlantic back in January.
Hall though quit the team before spring practice started and last week the Blazers lost former Cook High Hornet Thomas Arnold for the 2006 season with a knee injury.
Suddenly, all the depth coach Hatcher thought he had is now gone.
Chris Hatcher said "We have always had great running backs around here even though we are known for throwing the ball. So, somebody has really got to step up for us. Because that was a trouble spot for us last year when Vincent Brown went down with an injury."
Hatcher says Skylar Thornton is starting to pickup the VSU system and Chad Bryant, who was moved to running back from wide receiver, has had an outstanding spring.
Valdosta State wraps up spring drills next week.
