Investigation into teacher/student relationship

March 29, 2006

Albany -  Kitty Woodyard taught math at Monroe Comprehensive High School for 22 years. A 17-year-old student's mother found e-mails between the teacher and her son that suggested an inappropriate relationship.

WALB received copies of some of those emails Wednesday. In one, she writes, "I was thinking about you" and I've "been in bed all day-sick since last night. Think it's being away from you." In another, Woodyard asks, "Got your date for prom yet?"

The school system suspended Woodyard without pay. She then decided to resign on Friday.

DFACS, and the District attorney have been informed of the investigation. The Georgia Professional Standards Commission has not yet received a report from the school system, but they have 90 days to report the incident.

Woodyard will not be allowed to work in any Dougherty County school, and she could lose certification to teach in any school system.
