Mitchell County - A fire started two weeks ago, burned down a barn in Mitchell county Tuesday afternoon.
Homeowner Sam Cornwell set a pile of debris on fire two weeks ago. That pile kept smoldering and today spread when the wind blew. Although Cornwell lost the barn, he's thankful the fire went in that direction instead of toward his Branchville Road home.
The forestry commission warns that fire risk is high due to warm, dry and windy conditions throughout South Georgia.
