Record Breaking Win in GSGA 4-Ball

March 26, 2006

Valdosta -  Rob Wiggins and Ryan Evans, both of Kennesaw, fired a three-under 69 in the final round to capture the 18th annual Georgia Four-Ball Tournament, which took place at Valdosta Country Club and Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, March 24-26.

Wiggins and Evans, who were the only tandem in the field to shoot all three rounds in the sixties, carded a tournament-low 65 in the second round and set a new Georgia Four-Ball Tournament record with a tournament-total of 201 (-15).

Bob and Mike Nance of Calhoun finished seven strokes behind in second place.

The father-son team also finished as the runners-up in the 2005 tournament.

Two teams finished the tournament tied for third with total scores of 211.

They were Danny Moss of Valdosta and Michael Crews of Atlanta and Thomasville’s Doug Wilson and Lee Fletcher.

Lawrenceville’s Dave Oster and Ryan Pearcy totaled 213 to finish in a tie for fifth position overall with David Shcultze of Sharpsburg and Rick Gardner of Newnan.

Alex Mackey of Kennesaw and Clay Shaw of Marietta finished alone in the seventh spot after carding 214 for the tournament.

Tied for eighth place at 215 was Charles Hobbs of Blakeley and Joe Peters of Watkinsville and the winners of the third flight, Ellenwood’s Alp Kupcuoglo and Newnan’s Jimmy Ford.

In a three-way tie to round out the top ten were Atlanta’s David Nix and Joseph Phelan, Bob Cecil of Acworth and Gary Krasnov of Kennesaw and Dick and Thomas Donegan, both of Kennesaw.

The championship through third flights were eligible for the overall honors.

The field of 96 teams was divided into eight flights based on team handicap index.

The field alternated between the two host clubs, with the top four flights playing their first and third rounds at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.

Other flight winners were fourth – Bert Isenbletter of Marietta and Glenn Kavanagh of Powder Springs (218), fifth – Alpharetta’s Dan Fischer and Fred Ethridge (220), sixth – (tie) Jamie Britt and Jeff Butler, both of Loganville, and Alan Crowell of Norcross and Gene Graves of Duluth (232), and seventh – (tie) Michael Stephens of Buford and Phillip Gailey of Flowery Branch and Woodstock’s Dan Connell and his partner Guy Watkins of Marietta (227).
