Rapist poses as sheriff's deputy

Albany -- An Albany woman is frightened because she says she was approached by the same police impersonator who raped another woman. The man is still on the streets tonight.

The man attacked a Coffee County woman in her home. He was dressed as a deputy sheriff, but the Coffee County sheriff's office says he's an imposter.

After the sketch aired on WALB last night, an Albany woman contacted us and said the same man approached her in a North Slappey parking lot claiming he worked for the Dougherty County sheriff's office.

He threatened her with a ticket because of an expired handicap sticker. She was suspicious of his behavior.

"A law enforcement officer on a traffic stop is not going to act nervous, and afraid, be looking around the entire time he's talking to you," said Lt. Craig Dodd of Dougherty County Sheriff's Department.

She checked with the sheriff's office and says she was told the man did not work for them.
