Inmate found dead in cell

March 23, 2006

Valdosta  - A South Georgia inmate was found dead in his jail cell early Thursday morning.

Fifty-five year old Bobby Timothy Stanford collapsed in his cell at he Lowndes County jail just before 2:00 a.m. No one else was in the cell with him and investigators don't suspect any foul play.

They say his death appears to be natural, but they're waiting on autopsy results. "We could always speculate that he had a heart attack or something like that, but we'd rather not speculate. We don't have a medical history on him, haven't had any medical problems with him," said Captain J.D. Yeager.

Stanford was in jail on murder charges from Atkinson County. He was transferred to the Lowndes County Jail about three months ago because that facility has more space.
