Americus - As a student at Americus High, Mark Wilson was a star baseball player who later played at Georgia Southwestern.
Two decades later, Wilson is returning to his hometown as a head football coach.
The Sumter County school board Wednesday night voted 7-1 to hire Mark Wilson as the head football coach and interim athletic director at Americus-Sumter High.
Wilson replaces Bill Clark who resigned in early January.
Wilson has won 81 games in 14 seasons at three different schools- Jefferson, Lamar County and White County.
At each of those three schools, Wilson took a struggling program and turned them into a winner.
Something that Americus-Sumter needs as the program has won just four games since merging Americus and Sumter County High Schools which moved them from AA to AAAA four years ago.
