Albany -- All 16 Senior Centers run by the SOWEGA Council on Aging are again open five days a week. Federal budget cuts caused the council to shut down the centers on Wednesdays the past two weeks.
But extra donations from individuals and businesses allowed the council to restore full service. That means meals, exercise, and a safe place for seniors to gather five days a week.
"To know that they're daily routine has been reestablished and they don't have to make a decision on where they're going to go on that Wednesday. I'm sure that's a plus for them. It is for us," said Debbie Blanton SOWEGA Council on Aging Assistant Director.
The Council on Aging will continue to pursue grants and donations to make up for budget shortfalls.
