Douglas  --  There's a bit of mystery involving a South Georgia sheriff, and county leaders are prohibited from talking about it.

Superior Court judges in the Waycross district, which covers Coffee County, have issued a gag order, commanding Coffee County leaders not to talk about Sheriff Robert Smith.

County commissioners held a special called meeting last night to talk about plans for a new jail. Then, they went into executive session, but they can't say what was discussed there.

When asked if Sheriff Smith resigned, one commissioner would only tell us he did not have a letter of resignation from the sheriff, but he was forbidden from saying anything else.

We'll have more on this developing story as it becomes available.
