Albany--Many fire departments have trouble keeping a full staff, but potential firefighters now can get even better training at Albany Technical College.

Firemen can learn their skills through the college's Fire Science Program. It started a year ago and just got national accreditation.

The program gives students an opportunity to train and become certified firefighters.

"Hands on training includes all the fire maneuvers that it takes to put out fires. We're in a co-op with the marine base in terms of the actual training takes place out there," says director of instruction, Shirley Armstrong.

The college plans to expand the program to offer an associate degree in applied technology.
