Mobile, Al. - While no schools in Georgia are in the NCAA tournament, there is one local player who will have his dancing shoes on this weekend.
Former Monroe star Demetric Bennett and his South Alabama Jaguar teammates will play Florida in the NCAA tournament on Thursday in Jacksonville.
After sitting out last season when he transferred from SMU, D.B. III has been the Jaguars sixth man this season.
Bennett's season average is just over eight points a game but he has been the Jaguars leading scorer in five games this season including a 21 point effort against North Texas.
Last week he had 18 points in the Jaguars 25-point win over Western Kentucky in the Sun Belt Conference tournament championship game.
Even though South Alabama has won 24 games this season, winning the Sun Belt tournament is about the only chance they had of earning an NCAA tournament bid.
And Demetric Bennett knows what a great opportunity he had his teammates have with their tournament appearance.
Bennett said "I have dreamed about it ever since I started playing basketball Especially hen I got to college because alot of players go for four years and never go to the tournament."
The Florida/South Alabama matchup is one of the intriguing first round games since South Alabama coach John Pelphrey was an assistant under Florida's Billy Donovan.
The game is scheduled for Thursday at 3:00 p.m..
