Child abuse group sets up meeting

March 13, 2006

Albany -- After a court order, the head of the Child Abuse Protocol Committee sets Friday as the date for the group to meet. Thursday, Superior Court Chief Judge Loring Gray said Open Arms Director Beth McKenzie violated state statues by not holding meetings of the committee.

The Committee is made up of agencies that help child abuse victims, from the sheriff's department to DEFACs.

Since McKenzie was appointed chairperson in 2004, she's failed to hold a single meeting. So Judge Gray order her to call a meeting within ten days. She's now set that meeting for this Friday at 2:00.

The court documents order McKenzie to be prepared to tell committee members why she's not done her job as chairperson and why she should keep that position.
