Senior center returns to full time

March 10, 2006

Albany -- The embattled James H. Gray, Sr. senior center re-opens full time next week.

Because of a budget crisis, the center has been closed on Wednesdays for the last few weeks. But SOWEGA Council on Aging says donations will allow the East Albany senior center open every day.

"We did get some donations from some clubs and some businesses," said Kay Hind of the SOWEGA Council on Aging. "Actually the people who go to the center have put in a little more money. We don't charge, but we do let them make a donation."

The council is applying for two federal grants to keep the center open. Without the extra money, the center will close permanently on June 30.
