Cecil - If you are race fan then South Georgia Motorsports Park is where you want to be this weekend.
The race track will hold its annual Hooters Cup event on Saturday night while many of the top NHRA and IHRA drivers will be testing their machines on the dragstrip.
The event is known as the Eastern Spring Test Nationals and it was started several years ago in Virginia.
This year Torcocompetitionplus.com, which sponsors the event, decided to hold it at South Georgia Motorsports Park.
The big reason for the move is the fact the Cecil track is near to Gainesville, Florida where the NHRA will race next week at the Gatornationals.
NHRA teams will be using a new Goodyear tire next weekend and are testing that tire at SGMP.
Defending NHRA pro stock bike champion Andrew Hines along with former champ Angelle Sampey and the Americus-based G-Squared racing team will be on the track as well as pro stock legend Warren Johnson and his son Kurt and Tommy Johnson Jr. who won the funny car division at the last NHRA race in Phoenix.
The IHRA also has some heavyweights like Rick Jones and Rob Mansfield.
SGMP general manager Shad Dean knows hosting the eastern spring test nationals is a great opportunity for the newly built dragstrip.
Dean said "It means alot. But for the future, it just opens up alot of different avenues on several directions we can take."
The teams will be testing through Tuesday except on Sunday.
That is when the drivers square off against each other in Chicago style eliminations.
Gates open at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday and time trials will start an hour later.
