The Lee County Sheriff's Department is now working with the Albany Crime stoppers. The Lee County Sheriff's Department asked to join the Albany Crime-stoppers program. The Sheriff's Department believes it will be a helpful tool in closing some cases.
Albany-- State lawmakers approved millions of dollars for families of special-needs children but it may only be a temporary fix.
More than 1,600 families were denied coverage under the Katie Beckett Waiver Program after the state changed eligibility requirements. The waiver serves as supplemental insurance to help families with the soaring medical costs to take care of kids.
Legislators added 7.6 million dollars to the state supplemental budget to set up an independent foundation to help some of those families. That foundation will now be in charge of soliciting donations to continue providing financial help to families.
The money was approved after urging from Lt. Governor Mark Taylor last month to add money to the supplemental budget for Katie Beckett families denied coverage.
