March 9, 2006

Valdosta - The Gulf South Conference has handed out their postseason honors.

Valdosta State center Jon Rogers named to the conference's first team for a second year in a row.

The former Lowndes High Viking averaged 17 points a game and led the Gulf South in rebounding and blocked shots.

In 28 games, Rogers was in double figures in scoring and rebounding 17 times in the same game.

Junior guard Mike Crain, who was third in the GSC in scoring with an average of 20 points a game, was a second team all-conference selection.

The selections were reversed for the Daktronics all-region team released on Thursday.

Crain was a first team pick and Rogers made the second team.

Lady Blazer seniors Candice Ferrell and Traci Newton were second team picks to the GSC's women's team.

Ferrell averaged just under 13 points a game this season.

And Traci Newton, who started all but one game in her four year career, averaged 12 points a contest this season.
