Tifton businesses oppose sign ordinance

March 3, 2006

Tifton--A proposed sign ordinance in Tift county isn't sitting well with a lot of business owners.

The ordinance puts strict limitation on business signs, restricting size and locations of them.

Those opposed to the ordinance, say under those guidelines, most signs in the county wouldn't be allowed.

"A lot of the signs in the would come under this ordinance, would be non-conforming signs, which means if they were damaged or came down for one reason or another you couldn't replace them," says sign owner, Sandy Sims.

Those who favor the ordinance say it will help turn Tifton into a "signature" city.
