Valdosta - A South Georgia hospital has new technology to help save lives.

The radiology department at Smith-Northview Hospital in Valdosta is now using a digital x-ray system that allows health care providers to develop and share images electronically. Radiologists can transmit the images to doctors across the world through email.

The process is much quicker than developing x-rays through film, and in a trauma case, that time could mean the difference between life and death. “The entire cycle time was approximately three to four days and now it’s within hours," said John Sloan.

The new digital x-ray system will also save the hospital money. They’ll no longer have to pay for film or chemicals needed to develop the images.
