Prisoner escapes during work detail

February 28, 2006

Thomasville- A warning for Thomasville residents after a Valdosta State Prison inmate escapes during a work detail. Tuesday, James Williams escaped during a work detail at the Thomasville Farmer's Market.

More than 50 police and corrections officers are scouring the streets of Thomasville looking for Williams, and the fugitive unit from Atlanta has been called to help. Reviewing his phone conversations Tuesday, Williams alerted his family about his escape last night.

"We pulled up his phones Monday night, listened to his conversations with his family. He was advising them he was going to run today and they advised him not to," said Warden J. Darrell Hart, Valdosta State Prison.

Williams called his father again after his escape. He is considered dangerous. He may have shaved his head and has tried to alter his clothing. Anyone with information should call the local police department.
