Lee County - A Lee County High School senior is honored for his remarkable test scores and good grades. Steven Sumners was named Lee County's 2006 Star Student.

The star student must earn the school's highest score on the SAT and must be in the top 10% of the class. Sumners got a 2,360 out of 2,400 on the SAT.

He thanked his parents for encouraging him throughout his life.

"My parents were obviously a big influence. They pushed me to do my best and to work hard," said Sumners.

Sumners chose his Calculus teacher, Kelly Dowling, as his Star Student. Sumners plans to attend Mercer University, where he hopes to study statistics or engineering.
