Albany -- The Westover basketball team is the only boys team in the city of Albany still playing in the GHSA state tournament.
The Patriots advancing to the second round after a six-point win over Kendrick.
After a slow start to the regular season, there were some doubters about whether Westover could make it to this point, but the players say there were no doubts in their locker room.
Westover will be in the friendly confines of the Civic Center Friday against Liberty County, and the Patriots say they're happy to be there, and expect a lot of support from the home crowd.
Senior Cedric Lewis says, "It's great to be playing at home, so it makes us feel a little more comfortable, rather than in Savannah or somewhere like that. But either way I think we're going to play the same, knowing what we have to do going into the game."
Fellow senior Jermelle Benton adds, "We think that's an advantage playing in the Civic Center, because we know the Civic Center a little. It's our home town, so we'll have the home town crowd. We're the only team in Dougherty County still playing, so we expect a lot of fans."
Westover will play Liberty County Friday at eight-thirty at the Albany Civic Center.
