Valdosta - Today is National Arbor Day and one South Georgia city is celebrating by helping the environment.

Hundreds turned out for the Arbor Day Celebration in Valdosta. City leaders planted a willow oak tree, a tradition they carry out every year.

The city also received its twentieth Tree City USA recertification. "Its given to communities that meet certain criteria by having a plan and carrying out that plan to protect trees and plant more," said Eric Hahn, Parks and Recreation Director.

Valdosta was among the first 10 cities in Georgia to be certified as a Tree City USA.
