Walburn new Cougars football coach

February 13, 2006

Cordele - The search for a head football coach has ended at Crisp County High.

The Crisp County Board of Education Monday night unamiously approved Tom Walburn of Troup High to be the Cougars new head football coach and athletic director.

It took Tom Walburn just five seasons to become Troup High's second all-time winningest coach with a record of 43-17.

He took the Tigers to the AAAA semifinals in his first season in 2001 and the AAAA quarterfinals in 2003.

Last year, Troup High posted an 8-3 record and lost to a rival of Crisp County-Dougherty in the first round of the AAA playoffs.

Walburn will succeed Clay Hill who was fired in December.
