Macon- A Crisp County deputy shot in the face was able to talk with family members Sunday. Deputy Steven Rankin continues to recover in a Macon hospital after being shot in the face Saturday morning during a traffic stop.

The twenty-five year old deputy was shot under his eye and the bullet lodged near his spine. Doctor's have decided not to remove the bullet at this time. Family members say Rankin is doing much better.

The suspected gunman, Ben Westbrook III remains in the Crisp County Detention Center on various charges including Obstruction of an Officer and Criminal Attempt to Commit Murder.
