Auburn, Al. - Auburn is losing defensive coordinator David Gibbs to the Kansas City Chiefs where he will be the secondary coach.
But Tommy Tuberville has already filled that position.
Auburn announced Friday afternoon that former LSU and Valdosta State defensive coordinator Will Muschamp will be the Tigers new defensive coordinator.
The 34-year old Muschamp was a graduate assistant at Auburn ten years ago.
After assistant coaching positions at West Georgia and Eastern Kentucky, Chris Hatcher hired Will Muschamp to be his first defensive coordinator in 2000.
Nick Saban then hired Muschamp to coach linebackers at LSU in 2001 and promoted the former Georgia Bulldog to defensive coordinator in 2002.
In their national championship season in 2003, the LSU defense led the nation in scoring defense and total defense.
Muschamp followed Nick Saban to the Miami Dolphins where he was the assistant head coach for defense last season.
Tommy Tuberville says Muschamp is the perfect choice to be Auburn's defensive coordinator because of his past experience in the SEC and in the NFL.
