Albany unemployment down

January 26, 2006

Albany-- Albany's unemployment rate dropped in December. It was down one-tenth of a percent to five point seven percent last month. Officials say the areas labor force is adding more workers, and the Department of Labor will continue to help them find jobs and new skills.

"One of the programs that we have is the Georgia works program that allows someone who is eligible for that program, who is drawing unemployment to train with that employer for up to twenty-four hours a week for up to eight weeks" said Sheilah Holland with the Georgia Department of Labor.

The state of Georgia added twelve-thousand six hundred jobs in December, most of which were seasonal jobs in the retail and service related industries.
