Albany - South Georgians spend five million dollars a week on lottery tickets.

For people who play the lottery, televised drawings hold hope and excitement.

"It's really important that people get to see the drawings everyday while they're holding their tickets to see if maybe they've been a winner," says Georgia Lottery President Margaret DeFrancisco.

With hundreds of lottery retailers in South Georgia, Albany area players have cashed in on $987 million since the lottery began in 1993.

"South Georgia has been home to the lottery with our lottery retailers everywhere around South Georgia. I think we have about 600," says DeFrancisco."

Six hundred places to buy tickets and now, a new place to turn to see if you won.

"We're very excited to welcome WALB to our drawing station network," says DeFrancisco.

WALB-TV will air lottery drawings daily at 12:29 and between 7:00 and 7:30PM. And the people who hold the lucky tickets aren't the only winners.

"Eighty-seven thousand young people from South Georgia have received the HOPE Scholarship in the 12 plus years of the Georgia Lottery Corporation and 44,000 little four year olds have gone through the Pre-K program," DeFrancisco says.

The first drawing on WALB is Tuesday between 7:00 and 7:30PM. Cash Four and Fantasy Five air three times a week, Lotto South and Mega Millions air twice a week.
