Colquitt County restaurant closed by storm

January 14, 2006

Colquitt County- Friday's tornado's force a popular restaurant to close. Jernigan's Restaurant was damaged in Friday night's storm. The storm hit just as owner Henry Jernigan was going to the door to open the restaurant for the evening.

The winds threw two large branches through the roof and lifted heavy exhaust fans tossing them in the yard below.

"The exhaust fans and fresh air fan, it blew them away. That's the reason we can't open Saturday night on account of we've got no fan," said Henry Jernigan, Owner.

Jernigan's will be closed at least through Thursday so they can make repairs. A costly closure since Jernigan's serves at least 700 a night on the weekends. The storm also destroyed the restaurant's amphitheater built in 1986.
