Valdosta - The big need on the recruiting trail for the Valdosta State Blazers this offseason is the defensive line.
National signing day for high school players is still three weeks away but the Blazers have already started filling that need thanks to some mid-year transfers.
Of the nine players who have enrolled for spring semester classes, three are defensive linemen.
They are defensive tackles Cortez Lawrence and Melvin Black and defensive end Cedric Evans.
With Vincent Brown having graduated, the Blazers pick up two running backs including Skyler Thornton who is transferring from the University of Florida.
The battle for quarterback in the spring also will be interesting with former Thomas County Central Yellow Jacket Erik Walden transferring from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
Walden led the Yellow Jackets to the AAAA state championship game in 2002 and the semifinals the following year.
