Albany- The new Miss Albany 2006 was crowned Saturday night at Darton College, and the winner is... Miss Kendria Bailey.

Bailey and ten other young ladies competed for the title, as well as eight teens who competed for the title of Miss Albany Outstanding Teen. That winner was, Kimberly Scott.

The ladies competed in several categories including lifestyle and fitness or swimsuit, talent, evening gown and interview. Although interest in pageants has fallen off in past years, a new generation is creating interest.

"They're very popular and I think they're starting to gain more ground. Miss America's going to be a huge success this year and it's in Las Vegas and going to be broadcast on the County Music Television this year, but they are huge because teens are starting to develop an idea that the need to serve communities," said Yolanda Davis, Miss Albany 1999.

Kendria Bailey will go on to compete for the title of Miss Georgia and could eventually compete for the title of Miss America.
