Albany--  mSouth Georgia and the rest of the nation prepare to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. On Monday, January 16th, the country will mark Dr, King's birthday.

The Albany Civic Center will again be the site of Albany's King Day Celebration, with this year's theme "The Celebration of Freedom". This year's celebration will highlight freedom fighters from our military, as well as freedom fighters from the civil rights movement.

The speaker will be John Perdue, the subject and star of the one-man play "The Harvard Guy."

"The first portion of the program we are going to focus on freedom fighters in our armed services, who take up arms to ensure our freedom, and in this case right now the freedoms of other countries. In the second portion we are going to celebrate our civil rights freedom fighters, they did not necessarily take up arms, but they were an intrical part of a war here in this country"said King Day co-chair Calandra Jefferson.

The King Day Celebration begins at 5:30 January 16th, and tickets are still available at the Civic Center box office, Odyssey Records, and Helens Barber Shop.
